Peter Joseph is a director, writer, producer, editor, composer and creator of the Zeitgeist movies series. He is an independent filmmaker who has written, directed, narrated, scored and produced three non-commercial, self-produced and freely-distributed documentary films: Zeitgeist: The Movie, Zeitgeist: Addendum and Zeitgeist: Moving Forward. He is also the founder of "The Zeitgeist Movement", which is a social sustainability organization with members now in nearly every country. This documentary details the root causes of the systemic value disorders and detrimental symptoms caused by our current established system. This video presentation advocates a new socio-economic system, which is updated to present-day knowledge, featuring the life-long work of Social Engineer, Futurist, Inventor and Industrial Designer Jacque Fresco, which he calls a Resource-Based Economy.

The film details the need to outgrow the dated and inefficient methods of politics, law, business, or any other "establishment" notions of human affairs, and use the methods of science, combined with high technology, to provide for the needs of all the world's people. It is not based on the opinions of the political and financial elite or on illusionary so-called democracies, but on maintaining a dynamic equilibrium with the planet that could ultimately provide abundance for all people.

Paradise or Oblivion, by The Venus Project, introduces the viewer to a more appropriate value system that would be required to enable this caring and holistic approach to benefit human civilization. This alternative surpasses the need for a monetary-based, controlled, and scarcity-oriented environment, which we find ourselves in today.

The Venus Project-Resource Based Economy

The term and meaning of a Resource-Based Economy was originated by Jacque Fresco. It is a holistic social and economic system in which all goods and services are available without the use of money, credits, barter or any other system of debt or servitude. All resources become the common heritage of all of the inhabitants, not just a select few. The premise upon which this system is based is that the Earth is abundant with plentiful resource; our practice of rationing resources through monetary methods is irrelevant and counter productive to our survival.

Modern society has access to highly advanced technology and can make available food, clothing, housing and medical care; update our educational system; and develop a limitless supply of renewable, non-contaminating energy. By supplying an efficiently designed economy, everyone can enjoy a very high standard of living with all of the amenities of a high technological society.

A resource-based economy would utilize existing resources from the land and sea, physical equipment, industrial plants, etc. to enhance the lives of the total population. In an economy based on resources rather than money, we could easily produce all of the necessities of life and provide a high standard of living for all.

Tensions between Israel and Iran are rising. Sanctions imposed by the US and European Union are starting to hurt the Iranians in a major way, as access to food and other imports have been blocked. The West in many ways is pushing Iran back to the bargaining table in terms of its nuclear program. In the meantime Israel is stepping up its threats claiming that an attack on Iran maybe imminient. But in the West's efforts to isolate Iran, India has announced it will send a delegation into Iran and has now emerged as the number one customer of the Iranian oil. There are new indications showing China will send in its officials. This global chess match looks like it maybe a long and messy one. Peter Joseph, of the Zeitgeist movement talks to RT's Kristine Frazao. His group is dealing with the global economic crisis and has just returned from a week in Israel.

Description: Between the years of 2005-2010, the price of corn per bushel has more than doubled. Approximately 60 percent of the US corn crop goes to making ethanol fuel and is blamed by some for the worldwide food shortage. The US government requires oil companies to use the controversial fuel in gasoline in which the US burns one sixth of world's corn supply on the road. Frederick Kaufman, contributing editor at Harper's Magazine, joins us to discuss the cash crop.
